FAQ

The Authorization Card and its significance.

A completed, dated, and signed authorization card is used by the union as a showing of interest by the employees to the appropriate agency the union is filing a petition for election with. The cards are sent directly to the appropriate agency in question, such as the NLRB or a state agency in charge of conducting the election for union representation for private or public sector employees. The act of signing the authorization card does not grant any rights to the petitioner other than the right to petition for an election or request recognition of the bargaining unit by the employer.

Who conducts the election?

In the case of private sector employees the National Labor Relations Board conducts the election process. The election is generally held at the work site and during the employees scheduled shifts.

In the case of public sector employees the state agency in which the election is being held conducts the election process. The election is generally held at the work site and during the employees scheduled shifts.

 How are dues calculated?

After a successful election and contract negotiation process the employees in the bargaining unit would establish their monthly dues in an amount that reflects the monthly National Dues plus an amount suitable to cover the expenses of the union local.

Who negotiates our contract?

The bargaining unit employees will elect their negotiating committee and/or officers to work directly with their National Representative in preparing and negotiating a comprehensive proposal that addresses their specific needs and goals.
